GLH Living Donor Ambassador

Position Summary

The GLH Living Donor Ambassador plays a crucial role in Give to Live Health’s mission of helping transplant patients in their effort to find lifesaving living kidney donors, while simultaneously unburdening transplant center staff. The GLH-LDA serves as a knowledgeable resource for kidney transplant candidates, their families as well as individuals considering living organ donation. Additionally the Ambassador is the point person for all day-to-day interface with the transplant center staff.


Key Responsibilities

The daily interactions with patients, caregivers, clinicians, potential donors and their communities is what makes this role uniquely rewarding. Are you ready for the challenge?

 

  • Conduct educational sessions and presentations to raise awareness about living kidney donation, addressing common misconceptions, and highlighting the impact of donation on recipients.Add a description about this item

 

  • Strategize, develop, and assist in executing individualized community outreach in close collaboration with transplant candidates and their families.

 

  • Serve as main point of contact for potential donors to help them understand what it means to be a living kidney donor and provide on-going support as they consider and navigate the process of becoming a living donor.

 

  • Perform yearly post-surgery check-ins with donors, to note any changes in health status due to donation. Immediately report any changes to medical team for proper follow-up.

 

  • Always available to answer questions, respond to concerns and help guide patients and potential donors, throughout the process.

 

  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, community organizations, and transplant centers to advocate for living donation and foster partnerships that enhance outreach efforts.

 

  • Maintain accurate records of interactions with transplant candidates and potential donors, track outreach efforts, and contribute to reports on program effectiveness and donor outcomes.

 

  • Follow all required policies and procedures regarding patient confidentiality and information security. Report any issues promptly to management.

 

  • Provide training and mentorship to new Ambassadors, ensuring they are well-prepared to support potential donors. Share best practices and facilitate ongoing education for the Ambassador team.

  • Uniquely strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate EFFECTIVELY and EMPATHETICALLY

Crucial to Success

 

  • Self-starter with meticulous organizational skills 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to the mission of Give to Live Health.

Strongly Preferred

 

  • 3+ years’ experience in healthcare, patient advocacy or related field 
  • Experience in transplant setting as professional or patient is a plus but not required.
  • Experience in community outreach 
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, healthcare administration, public health, or related field 

Setting You Apart From the Crowd:

 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Spanish is helpful but not required
  • Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
