As Associate Professor of Surgery at Northwell Health and a Transplant Surgeon at North Shore University Hospital and Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New York, Dr. Grodstein saves lives through his daily work. He is passionate about providing high-quality care to transplant patients, living donors and their families.
Being a transplant surgeon was in Dr. Grodstein’s blood from a young age. He remembers hearing his father, a kidney specialist, call a patient who had endured dialysis for seven years. During that phone call, Dr. Grodstein’s father delivered news that would forever change the course of that person’s life – they were finally receiving the kidney transplant they so desperately needed. For the patient, that call was life-saving, and for Dr. Grodstein, that call was life-changing. He knew being part of those special moments was something he wanted to do for the rest of his life.
Dr. Grodstein earned a Bachelor of Science from McGill University and a Doctor of Medicine from Columbia University. He completed his surgical residency at NYU Langone Medical Center and his fellowship in transplant surgery at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Dr. Grodstein is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. He served on the Organ Procurement & Transplantation Network’s Kidney Transplantation Committee and LiveOnNY’s Board of Directors.
"Increasing living donation is key to tackling the organ shortage, and Give to Live Health aims to do just that. The organization is dedicated to partnering with transplant centers to improve their performance by saving more lives through living kidney donation,” Dr. Grodstein said. “The Living Donor Ambassador Program eases the burden off our team, facilitates additional living donor kidney transplants, and provides next-level customer service and an improved patient experience. I encourage my fellow transplant center colleagues to connect with Give to Live Health.”
